UbuntuDDE Groovy Gorilla Release Note

UbuntuDDE Remix Groovy Release

Hello community! Firstly, on behalf of the team and myself, I’d like to thank the UbuntuDDE Remix Community and our precious donors, patrons, sponsors, supporters and well-wishers for motivating and supporting us for our next release. We had an outstanding journey of 6 months after the successful launch of UbuntuDDE Remix 20.04 LTS in April and we hope you’ll love the distribution more with this release.

In the past 6 months, we had few ups and downs but finally got our way to successfully port the beautiful and modern desktop environment from Deepin v20. Personally, I’d like to thank Felix Yan (from Arch Linux), David Mohammed (from Ubuntu Budgie) and everyone else for always supporting and helping us throughout the journey.

And today, we’re back with another exciting release, UbuntuDDE Remix 20.10 codenamed “groovy” (Groovy Gorilla) . Groovy is a non-LTS release which will have support for the next nine months till July 2021. 1. There is an error restarting the computer, “unattended updates” block the restart, and although you can press the Restart button, that error is repeated on each reboot, it is a recent installation normally updated, but that error persists.

      Hi there,

It’s not an error but a feature reminding you that there might be an automated system upgrade in progress. And yes, it is normal and expected.

      Thanks!

      1. But using normal procedures has already been updated the system, it is but does not indicate that there are updates, and the message persists, as is done to indicate that everything is already updated and disappears that message until there is another update pending.

        1. You have to remove it completely with sudo apt remove unattended-upgrades
if you deactivate it with sudo dpkg-reconfigure unattended-upgrades this feature remains

  2. Is there any process to update an Ubuntu machine from Focal Fossa to Groovy without any displaced storage or needing to format?

  3. Updates are still missing such as deepin-terminal, the configuration of the time does not work, that is, you cannot make the time not have the 0 in front (09:30 is what it presents but 9:30 without the 0 forward presents)

  4. Error No. 1 if it is wrong!
When I log out, restart or turn off the computer, I get a message that I should shut down one program and something about updates!

Error No 2 is that Vokoscreen cannot be started!

Error No 3 is that the status menu hangs a bit after logging in, the month comes up when I press the Window button and the program menu comes up, then the last status menu becomes visible!

I also try and start 360vr video with the program GoProVRPlayer from file manager which actually works well with vr pictures. But where is the program directory in UbuntuDDE? I do not know where to download the application for a certain 360vr file from mobile!

I want to use my wireless headphones in UbuntuDDE with bluetooh. This did not work in deepin 20, one of the reasons I want to switch to UbuntuDDE. How do I do this? Will be testing this today, will be back with feedback, if it did not work!

I hope I get answers to my questions, liked UbuntuDDE very much. Very nice system.

  5. 20.10 don’t even boot for me i got error like

    [error ] snap deamon stopped
    [error ] anything tool stopped

anyway to fix this.. i can’t even get to login screen
    ..

  6. Awesome release, however I have noticed a couple of things,

    1) The CPU monitor does not show the total per cent used, but does show CPU usage on individual apps.

    2) While playing a youtube video the fans on my laptop go nuts, I understand I am using an i7-7500U CPU, but this does not happen on any other OS including other Ubuntu’s and Deepin OS itself.

Feature Request: Can you please add the Windows List view to the file explorer, I am desperate.

Otherwise this OS is amazing and I love it. Highly recommended.

  7. Very, very cool release — awesome integration of v20. Beautiful environment and well-chosen installs. THANK YOU for all your work on this! 😀

I can’t seem to find the release schedule, so could you please tell me when this version of DDE will be available in an LTS release?

    Thank you very much!

    1. UbuntuDDE is based on Ubuntu. It follows a 2-year release schedule cycle. The last LTS was release in April 2020, the next LTS is scheduled for April 2022 for the Ubuntu base. DDE is expected to be released at the same time or within a few weeks of the Ubuntu release.

  8. As usual with various Linux distros, I am trying UbuntuDDE within Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager on Win10 Pro , everything with latest updates.
Just for this, I am not getting VM Guest Additions to work – the Devices ‘Insert Guest Additions CD image…’ just results in the ‘iso’ being mounted as an optical drive but I cannot get it to run; therefore the install procedure does not take place.
Access to shared folder, with all its many file types, is required to facilitate testing.
    Any thoughts please?

  9. Will the Deepin V20 Desktop will come to the 20.4 lts release? I have some problems with 20.10 , flatpaks are freezing the system, and some programms are not launching like steam.

    Greetings from Germany

  10. I cought the bug, unexpectedly the bottom panel became bigger, a way bigger, however I haven’t changed screen resolution, and I can’t fix it.

  11. Hi y’all. Recently, I have had an unpleasant encounter with installation UbuntuDDE 20.10 alongside another OS. After the installation was done, I rebooted the system but Ubuntu didn’t manage to launch.

  12. What about the updates, deepin has updates that you still do not have, how often do you coordinate with the deepin servers?

  13. hello the taskbar, in the mode, hide automatically, creates a copy that remains fixed, while the other disappears, you can solve the bug …..

  14. Hello, I wanted to inform you that the Italian language pack is not updated and you cannot download it from the server, on the linux terminal.

  15. Good evening, on the computer screen, a box always appears, indicating a problem to a program in the system …. asks me if I want to report the problem ….

    1. I was just wondering when this update (deepin 20.1) would be updated and reflected in UbuntuDDE Remix. Hear of any timelines? Communication regarding this distro leaves much to be desired.

      1. No wonder, it is 1 man project.
No updates from DDE, still many bugs etc.

If you want to have a stable DDE desktop, your only choice is to use the
        Deepin distribution itself.
        Ubuntu DDE is dead.

  16. Hi there,

I’m a software engineer for almost 25 years, but I’ve never done any Linux development. Mainly focused on Java development, but right now I’m coding in Go, javascript, and typescript as well.

How can I contribute to your project?

  17. – Windows effect (Magic Lamp) not working properly
    – After waking up my PC. Keyboard not working as well as my audio on my TV that I am using as monitor
-Sometimes after reboot keyboard not working
-When I wake my computer up I can not restart it
-The dock not working properly when selecting “Hide Intelingetly”

Everything else works just fine. Love it. Please keep it going on!!!

  18. UbuntuDDE Groovy cannot be set autologin. I check lightdm.conf and settings/account/autologin all is ok. Please what set autologin?

  19. Hi,
I am using UbubtuDDE Remin Groovy Gorilla 20.10.
My Dock is automatically moving to my external display.

Is there any way I can fix it to my main display (Laptop display)

    Tamim Khan

    1. Hi,

I have the same problem with UbuntuDDE Groovy Gorilla 20.10.
I use a desktop with two screens too.
My dock is jumping between monitors.

      Julius Sanctus

        1. Thanks for the information.

I read that the jump between screens is a feature, stopping the mouse for 3 seconds on another screen, the dock is moved to it, although, this feature.
          To stop the jump:
          $ gsettings set com.deepin.dde.dock.mainwindow only-show-primary “true”

I’m really enjoying using UbuntuDDE. Congratulations!

          Grateful.

  20. Hi there.Cungrats .You ve done a great job , but i have aminor issues with the GPU fan(it s on max speed ).Any suggestions how can i fix it?
